Program Overview
Year 7 Transition Group (Group 2 – Summer Holidays)
For Year 6 students preparing for secondary school
Starting high school is a big step. New teachers, new routines, new friendships — it’s exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. This group is a relaxed and supportive space to help kids build confidence and get ready for the change.
More Than Just School Prep
Across three sessions, students will explore practical tools to feel more confident and capable as they enter Year 7.
We’ll cover things like:
- Managing emotions in tricky moments
- Navigating friendships and social situations
- Getting organised for homework and classwork
- Understanding how high school works (and what’s different)
- Building resilience and confidence along the way
The group offers a safe, friendly space to learn new skills and connect with others going through the same transition, and is facilitated by a psychologist.
Who Is It For?
Year 6 students who:
- Are feeling a bit unsure (or excited!) about starting high school
- Want some practical tools to feel more prepared
- Would benefit from learning in a small, supportive group
- Like the idea of connecting with others in the same boat
What To Expect
Each session focuses on a key part of the transition to high school, including:
- Handling nerves and managing emotions
- Making friends and feeling confident socially
- Staying safe online
- Getting organised with time, homework, and routines
- Knowing who and how to ask for help
Kids will get to try strategies in a relaxed group environment — and walk away with tools they can actually use.
